Ketamine Therapy

I’ve been working with ketamine therapy for three years (using both IV and lozenge methods), and I often observe one, two, or three key outcomes with this therapeutic approach.

The first outcome involves an increased ability to be flexible in perspective-taking, particularly regarding core negative beliefs about oneself and childhood wounds. Ketamine therapy can help shift perspectives more easily, enabling us to understand others’ perspectives without becoming entrenched in our own rigid views. Trauma can make our minds less flexible, but ketamine assists in creating new neural pathways and skills for perspective-taking, which can reduce tension within and around us.

The second experience that can occur involves having a new bodily experience, which may seem counterintuitive given ketamine's dissociative effects. However, this medicine can help us return to our natural state of the parasympathetic nervous system, allowing us to experience peace within ourselves again. Ketamine turns our focus inward while broadening our perspective of the world, leading to feelings of ease, trust, peace, calm, clarity, connectedness, and compassion—a concept similar to the self-energy in Internal Family Systems.

The last experience I've witnessed in my work with ketamine is emotional purging, though this is less common than the first two outcomes. Emotional purging can occur when there are emotional blockages, and ketamine can assist in releasing these blockages. Anti-nausea medication will be prescribed if needed for this possibility.

I offer this therapeutic modality in partnership with an organization called Journey Clinical. Journey Clinical is a platform for licensed psychotherapists to incorporate science-based psychedelic therapies in their practice safely and effectively, starting with Ketamine-
Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). Journey Clinical’s in-house medical team takes on patient eligibility, prescriptions and outcome monitoring, while I take on the therapy. Their collaborative care model is designed to deliver personalized treatment plans to meet your individual needs and improve long-term outcomes.
